The reason I chose ECPI for my Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, is because first of all, I heard that ECPI only takes the best. I want to be one of the best in this field, because I want to help people with what I have learned from ECPI. I was originally at Itt-Technical Institute for Criminal Justice. During a guest speaker in my Criminal Investigations class, I learned that the FBI and the CIA recruits from ECPI. Once I heard this, I made an appointment at ECPI to transfer schools. I want to be a finger print analyst. I want to collect finger prints from crime scenes, and any other area in which I can be of assistance. My main goal for this degree is to help people in a way which many people would not be able to do so.
Forensics is a fast growing field that requires a lot of hard work, energy, and patience. You need to have all of these factors, in order to do your job correctly and professionally. ECPI is one of, if not the best colleges on the East Coast. I have also been in school for a while now, and I am ready to graduate and start a good job. Right now, I work at Applebee’s in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. It is a good job, but it is not a forever job. I do not want to be working as a server the rest of my life. Even though there is nothing wrong with that, I do not want that for my career. I want more then “Would you like fries or mashed potatoes with that?”
I want to be in a lab, figuring out whether or not a 16 year old boy really stole the mailbox off of his neighbor’s property. Not assembling napkins and silverware at a restaurant. Even though we all have very demanding schedules and families, I try to make the time to go to school and receive my education. It is very hard coming from Elizabeth City everyday then going to work, and trying to get the homework done. It is important for me to succeed here at ECPI, because there is no other option for me. Like I said, I do not want to work in a restaurant for the rest of my life. I want to have meaning in this world, and working with food is not very meaningful.

My life has many twists and turns which has bought me to ECPI.
Before I had my kids I was very care free and didn’t strive for nothing.
I would hang out all day and do pretty much nothing but let time pass me by.
I was getting in trouble all the time and that wasn’t cool.
Then I met my kids mother and had my first child and that was a real eye opening experience for me. No October 20th my daughter Aniya T’seir was born when she came out she had a lot of hair I was so happy. They let me cut the umbilical cord and carry her to the nursery. I love my baby very much. So then a year and a half later my son was born June 12th Unique king and it was funny because when his shoulders came out he started wiggling his way out that blew my mind. Now they are 5 and 6. Daddy takes care of his babies but it’s not good enough for him. They deserve more so I decided to go to school and get further education so that I can provide better for them and myself.

The start of my journey began in my high school government class. We had someone from ECPI come in to tell us about the school. During that class we were told about what ECPI had to offer and the benefits of going here. During the class I noticed that ECPI had a lot to offer that I liked and decided to have them call me. The next day I got a call from ECPI, and I set up an appointment to come in and talk to someone about going here. After I meet with the admission advisor I talked to my mom about going here. She asked me why I would want to go here and would I be able to handle the responsibility of going to this type of college. I told her that I thought it would be easier for me because I am a hands on learner, rather than a person that can sit and listen to someone talk for hours. After I went around to a few different schools I decided that ECPI would be the best choice for me. Once I had made up my mind about coming here me and my mom made another appointment to come meet with the admissions advisor about getting me enrolled. She was pleased that I choose here over other places. She asked what field of study I would like to get in and I told her. After that she gave me a little tour of the school and I was quite impressed with what ECPI had to offer. We then set up another appointment to meet with the finical aid advisor. After that meeting it was just waiting until orientation and the first day to get here. That’s how I my journey to ECPI began and I hope that it will be a wonderful journey and experience.

The path that brought me to ECPI is a very simple one. Ever since I was 13 years old I have worked manual labor jobs. Last year I was at work, it was hot and muggy I had my finger crushed by a piece of freight. I then told myself that I no longer wanted to sweat, shiver, or get hurt on a job again. I started to research the different schools that I could attend. When ECPI came up on my list to investigate I found out that they offered the accelerated course of study. This was a major plus for me, because I needed something that could get me in and out fast.
I then set up an appointment to meet with the counselors. So they could help me decide what course I should take. I already knew I wanted to take computer networking; they just reinforced my decision for me. The counselors went over the classes I would be taking, and about how long I would be in school. They told me that I would be in school for about 18 months for my associates and 36 for my bachelors’ degree. When I found that out I was in, I immediately started the enrollment process.
After the enrollment process was complete I received my start date and my first classes my college life. As I sat down in my first class I told myself this is the first day of the rest of my life.

My journey to ECPI began when I was a senior in high school at Grassfield High. A guess speaker came into my class and his name was Frank Gomez. He is a representative from ECPI and he gave us kinds of information about ECPI. We did some activities so he would not be lecturing the whole class period. The activities that we did were kind of fun, but a little childish. Mr. Gomez influenced me to attend ECPI by showing us all the types of majors that they have and when he told us about Computer Electronic Engineering Technology, I said that I had to come here. When I told my grandparents that I was attending ECPI, my grandmother was ok with it, but my granddad did not want me to go here. He didn’t want me to attend ECPI because he always wanted me to go to a four-year college or any type of university. He said that I was taken the easy way out, but after my interview with ECPI he was ok with it once the administrator told him about what they do here and how they do what they do here. It has and still is a rough trip because of the financial aid process that I am still going through. If I do not get the financial aid here I am going to have to go TCC or the military. So I am hoping I receive the financial aid for this school. This journey is not going to get any easier because I am going to need a job while I attend here, my grandfather just had knee surgery so I have to help take care of him, and I have people in my house to take care of like my grandmother and my little cousin Brittany since my Aunt that lives with us does not do anything around the house. So it is going to being kind of hard to balance all of that and going to school now. That is how my journey to ECPI began and hopes that it continues on the right way and end in the right place.

The road to ECPI was unexpected for me. I am Malcolm Dorsey who attended Kempsville high school. I have always been interested in computers and electronics, but I am also lazy and don’t do things that need to be done to help me go forward for my goals. In my 12th grade year I was in Computer Technology class as an ECPI representative came in to talk to us about what ECPI had to offer. It sparked my interest a little, but enough to fill out the info card.
Once they had left I had totally forgot about what ECPI was and what they were about. That’s just how I am. I would say it’s coming down to the middle of the third nine weeks, and I had set out to apply for multiple colleges to set up meetings with them. ECPI was not one of the colleges. I remember it like it was yesterday; my friends and I were playing Guitar Hero and I had gotten a call from ECPI. I hated when random people called me but I remembered I had given my number on the info card from earlier in the year. They were talking to me and I wasn’t exactly paying attention and because of my company that was at my house and the television being on. The only thing I remembered was that they wanted to see me on a certain date to talk with my mother and I. We had to come in on my day off of work, so I was already a little annoyed.
As we arrive My mother and I were greeted by Kendra who is now my representative for ECPI. As the meeting went on she was explaining how the school worked, what they were about , and what they taught. I was very interested. In the beginning I had no intentions of enrolling in ECPI but at the end of what turned out to be an interview things changed. My mother and I were really shocked because we were coming to just look around and hear what they have to offer. It also impressed us. That was a plus and out of nowhere I was applying for scholarships to help pay for college. I was officially enrolled and here I am now in class writing a paper about how I got here.

“We should not let our fears hold us back form pursing our hopes” says John F. Kennedy
I have been through so much just to be sitting in the seat that I’m in now. I have been very anxious to start school. I’m quite ready to begin my life, but this is only the beginning.
In high school I worked pretty hard up until my senior year when I began slacking off and not actually caring about my education. There was that point in my life where I realized that my education was the most important thing I have going for myself. I got back on my feet but in all effort to get out of high school with a diploma. About a year after graduation I started looking into colleges and what they can offer. I didn’t get accepted to the first one so I completely lost hope and wanted to give up. I failed to realize that I didn’t get accepted to one out of a million different colleges, so I continued to try. Finally after searching and browsing the different schools I found ECPI. I didn’t see my first choice in majors so I went with my second choice which was criminal justice. I applied and got accepted you can only imagine the excitement within my mind. I put all my thoughts and goals together and started to pack my things.
I made my way from South Carolina to Virginia Beach and here I am now. I honestly have many goals in life, but I do know that by the year of 2011 I want to have a degree and I great job. My hard work was worth the effort my journey was long but most definitely worth it.

The idea to go to college started six months ago when I was on cruise on the Harry S Truman. I was sitting in my shop thinking about getting out of the navy. When I notice a report on CNN about the economy problems in the United States and that educational requirements for jobs where changing. After seeing the program I consider what I have done over the past three and half years in the navy. After thinking about this for some time I decided to stay in the navy and get a degree. When the cruise was over and I got back from visiting family and friends in Arizona I went to navy college on NAS Oceana, and took the tuition assistant course that all naval personnel are required to take before starting college. I talked to four different colleges about the classes they have, and the type of support they give to the people who attend their school. The decision to come to ECPI was made after I talked to a couple of people who use to attend the school a couple of years ago. They said that “if I wanted to get into computers or electronics that ECPI was the better school to go to in Virginia Beach or Norfolk”. Soon afterwards I got in contact with ECPI through Linda Greene who asked me to come in and talk to here and a couple of days. After a series of having to change appointment dates and getting in a car accident I finely made it down to the college. My friend who gave me a ride over here that day also decided to start school here with me since he tried to start before we went on deployment to the Middle East but was unable to. Talking to Linda about what classes they have and my own interest brought me to the decision to get a degree in computer networking and security management. Before I could apply for the classes I had to turn in a request chit asking permission from my command and the navy to go to school and also send in a chit for tuition assistance. Which my command didn’t approve of at first I had to go to my chief and co, and explain to them that I would be able to attend college and work without problems at same time. A week ago they approved my chit for college and that is the journey I took to get to ECPI.

I’ve struggled all of my life through school and to find a way to success was my goal to a future that would be brighter for my horizon. Learning to be a well rounded student had grounded me from what I really wanted, but in school you have to by law. I wanted to learn a trade or a skill but I wasn’t accepted to VOTEC or ATI so I graduated a year late from my traditional public high school ready to emerge for the education in which I begged for. I applied to go to ECPI and it was hard. My parents make good money but I am not like them though, unfortunately. They don’t really want to help me get through college and I get no financial backing because of so. I’m struggling right now but I guess the education will be worth it. A reason why I chose to go to ECPI is because of the degree program. The whole bachelor’s program in 2 to 3 is awesome. Anywhere else it can take from 4-6 to receive one. I like that the school specializes in technology and you can work and still attend due to flexible schedules. Smaller classes are a plus for more one on one education and hands on learning. For everyone who said I wouldn’t have an educational future, I’m sort of trying to rub it in their face so when I become successful I can show them that I am not a nobody in this life that I am someone and I will make a difference in what I do.I have come to ECPI now but I have brought more than just myself. I have brought perseverance, dedication, willpower, determination, enthusiasm, interest, and other words that have meaning as well as a sensation on the spine as I wear all words on my back like a t-shirt. To get to this level was a test and now that I am here I am ready for any challenge that awaits my breaking point to unleash upon distinction.

I arrived here in the United State last March 2008 and I came here as an immigrant. After a month of my stay, I decided to look for a job. I tried to search through the internet and applied on-line. Unfortunately I was not able get an offer from the ones that I like or I can say not even a reply. I feel so frustrated during those times. So I tried to apply to other jobs. Though I don’t like the job so much, I have to get it because I need it.
Although I already got a job I still keep on applying for other jobs that I think would help me get a better compensation but nothing happens. So I keep on asking myself what is wrong with me. Why is it that I can’t find a good job? I am a college graduate and I have my bachelor’s degree so why can’t I find a good job. Then I was thinking maybe because I did not earn my degree here in the United States, maybe because they don’t believe what I wrote in my resume or maybe because I’m new here and I don’t have local experience.
That’s what makes me to decide to go back to school. I have to find a way how to get my future going. I tried to seek my families and friends advised and they’re all telling me that it is a good idea to get a degree here in United States. So that’s what I did. I started to ask around and ask people from my work if they have any idea where and how to get information about schools. So happen that I got a co-worker who’s also a student here in ECPI, he told me to try to surf through the website if I can see a course that will interest me, and so I did. I was able to find one and I tried to inquire about it. I set a meeting with the admission advisor and everything went well. So now I’m here!

My name is Evangle Hendricks I’m from Portsmouth VA. . I’ve wanted to attend college for a while however do to bills and time I wasn’t able to. Know that all those things have lined up so I can get ahead in life. I’ve worked at the same job for the last nine yrs. of my boring life. I need to make a change so I can make more money, move into a better and be able to support a family just in case I get someone pregnant or get married to someone who likes to spend money. Attending this school will help me reach those goals. MY job is a pretty good one however it’s not where I want to be for the next 10 yrs... MY job does have internship program that I will be entering. This will allow me to stay at the company but work in another department. I’ll be getting paid a lot more also. This education will support me life style greatly being able to use the skills I will learn will change my pay rate so live the single taking trips to Brazil, Porter and Mexico when I want. I’d like to go to some professional sporting events, basically doing my thing. Getting paid a lot of money is important to me because I like to splurge. The thing about life is that you never know how or where life will take you but being prepared will help. I may get someone pregnant,
